The Best Superhero Gadget: (Second Reader Nomination)

The rebuttal to Sio's sterling nomination of The Lens as The Best Superhero Gadget was also originally left as a comment on my Wordpress compilation. Here is Maurice Kane, who kinda backs me up, but also kinda more backs up being very selective about which ring we're discussing.

Maurice says:

I agree that the Silver Age Green Lantern’s power ring is the premiere, inimitable gadget in the annals of superherodom because of its near-infinite multi-use versatility as an offensive weapon, communications device(including Starfleet-like universal translator capabilities), generator of force-fields, and provider of rapid transportation through any medium imaginable. It is simple, it is portable, and only requires a periodic charge and the user’s willpower.
The update is that the impurity which renders ring-bearers vulnerable to the color yellow is no longer operative; apparently it relates to the fear-entity Parallax. And even with “yellow” as a weakness, that impediment was still easier to surmount than the susceptibility of the Golden Age Green Lantern (Alan Scott) to wood. Wood is , or at least in the pre-plastic 1940s when the Golden Age GL was most active as a crimefighter, omnipresent: trees, furniture, picture frames, running boards on cars, building construction.

Did you catch it, in there? Maurice is trying to hint that I don't know what I'm talking about. Sure, he doesn't come right out and say it, but he claims that wood is also a weakness that the Green Lantern had. Which is something I never heard. So I am going to settle this the only way I know how.

No, not declaring myself correct. That only works in parenting, and on some Jeopardy! categories. Instead, I will google it. Here we go...

Googling Was wood a weakness of the Green Lantern reveals that Wikipedia -- of course-- has answers, and those answers are "Richmond, Virginia." Not helpful. There's another site, though, that says wood was his weakness -- but that's in a comment, so that's not helpful, either. So we'll have to go with Wikipedia's entry, after all, and, having done that, we've determined that Richmond, Virginia was a weakness of the Green Lantern's.

Thanks, Maurice, for the nomination.
